Description:

We are UPG Aquatics, one of the world's largest manufacturers of aquarium products with such brands as Tetra, Marineland and Instant Ocean, Jungle and Perfecto. 

 

Essential Functions:

1.    Conduct various lab tests on chemicals, intermediate product stages and finished bulk product utilizing appropriate equipment, such as High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV spectrometer, and IR photometer; ensure results meet product standards and are accurately recorded according to standard operating procedures.

2.    Analyze data to ensure results are within acceptable specifications or tolerances and make decisions regarding release of product for production use. 

3.    Develop methods and procedures for use in product testing and release.  Serve as primary organizational trainer and subject matter expert on lab testing processes and proper use of laboratory equipment methods for identification of chemicals, products, and materials. 

4.    Effectively communicate product statuses, testing issues and release schedules with production staff and departmental leadership.

5.   Conduct daily and routine maintenance on laboratory systems and equipment. Maintain appropriate records of inventory of lab supplies, equipment, and reagents.

6.    Follow prescribed safety policies at all times as established by the company.

7.     Work with associates in team effort to further company goals concerning productivity, safety and quality.

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

1.   Communicate timely with Purchasing when reorders of supplies or equipment is needed.

2.   Provide technical support to production, marketing and other staff as required.

3.     Provide quality assurance support to Production as needed or directed.

4.     Communicate equipment problems to supervisor providing information such as what equipment, problem, frequency, etc.

5.     Perform other work related duties as assigned.

 

 

Critical Performance Criteria:

 

Accuracy of testing processes - Accurate and timely testing processes are key elements in the production of finished product, customer satisfaction and the ultimate health of pets using produced products. 

Primary technical resource for organization - Providing proper training of associates within the department and serving as a technical resource to other company associates will not only ensure compliance with regulatory agencies but will also ensure that all finished goods are of the highest quality and that information provided to consumers via packaging or customer service will be accurate.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

 

1.     Bachelors Degree in chemistry or related field preferred with a minimum of two years lab testing experience in a high volume chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

2.     Must be familiar with lab techniques including HPLC, spectrometry, photometry, titration, hardness testing and pH testing. 

3.     Able to use advanced arithmetic skills including the ability to understand and apply conversion factors, ratios, percentages, and algebraic reasoning.

4.     Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of personnel.

5.     Able to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.

6.     Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.  Ability to use standard HPLC software.

7.     Able to lift 40 pounds up to 40 inches from the floor

8.     Able to climb stairs.
